Dr. Lieberman served as the Chair of the Department of Pathology at The Methodist Hospital from 1988 until 2010. He was also the founding director of the Methodist Hospital Research Institute, and held the Ernest Cockrell, Jr. Distinguished Endowed Chair.
In addition to authoring almost 200 papers in the scientific literature in areas as diverse as carcinogenesis, environmental toxicology and molecular genetics, Dr. Lieberman served on the editorial boards or as associate editor for many scientific journals including Cancer Research and Environmental Health Perspectives. He is a past president of the American Society for Investigative Pathology and a previous member of the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Dr. Lieberman graduated from Yale University and received his MD and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He came to Houston from Philadelphia where he served as chair for the Department of Pathology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center. He has also been professor of pathology at Washington University School of Medicine, head of the Somatic Cell Genetics Section of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and a fellow at the National Cancer Institute.
