He currently serves as the lead play-by-play announcer for THE NFL ON CBS, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship and Final Four, and the anchor of CBS's golf coverage, including the Masters and the PGA Championship.

Know your risk factors to help prevent dementia

Houston, TX - 10/15/2012 - Dr. Gustavo C. Roman, director of the Nantz National Alzheimer Center at the Methodist Neurological Institute in Houston, summed up decades of dementia-related research in a review paper in Alzheimer’s Disease and Associated Disorders. Roman said although more definitive research is needed, focusing on the following risk factors can go a long way to helping reduce the risk of vascular dementia and mixed dementia (the combination of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease). Cognitive disorders expert joins Nantz National Alzheimer Center in Houston

Houston, TX - 5/9/2012 Bryan M. Spann, D.O., Ph.D., adds clinical leadership to Methodist’s Alzheimer’s program

Bryan M. Spann, D.O., Ph.D., a board-certified neurologist specializing in the clinical management of patients with cognitive disorders, has been named clinic director of the Methodist Neurological Institute’s Nantz National Alzheimer Center.

Spann most recently served as medical director of the Memory and Aging Center at the University of Southern California. As clinic director at Methodist, Spann joins a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Gustavo C. Roman, director of the Nantz National Alzheimer Center. Methodist Neurological Institute

Dr. Gustavo Román is the Jack S. Blanton Distinguished Endowed Chair and Director, Nantz National Alzheimer Center at The Methodist Neurological Institute in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Román was previously professor of neurology at the University of Texas Health Science Center’s School of Medicine in San Antonio, where he founded the UT Medicine Memory Disorders Clinic. Prior to UTHSC, he served as Chief of the Neuroepidemiology Branch at the National Institutes of Health, where he led a team in producing the currently used diagnostic criteria for research studies in vascular dementia.

His accomplishments have earned him numerous awards, including the Commendation Medal of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Román is a Fellow of the American Neurological Association, American Academy of Neurology (AAN), American College of Physicians and Royal Society of Medicine (London).

Dr. Román is vastly experienced in various aspects of neurology including neuroepidemiology, cognitive neurology and vascular dementia. Dr. Román has published extensively; and has more than 200 peer reviewed published articles, mainly in the field of dementia. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neuroepidemiology and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Neurological Sciences. He is Elected Trustee of the World Federation of Neurology and has been appointed as Chair of the WFN Latin American Initiative.

Dr. Román is fluent in English, French and Spanish and has a large international patient population.
