Nantz National Alzheimer Center

Clinical Services

The Nantz National Alzheimer Center (NNAC) provides comprehensive diagnostic, evaluation and treatment for Alzheimer's and related memory disorders. The NNAC is an outpatient clinical service dedicated to care and research for individuals with memory problems and to the support of their families.

The core missions of the Center include:

  • Provide compassionate and expert clinical care for Alzheimer's disease patients and their families.
  • Educate the public, caregivers, and professionals on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary Alzheimer's disease research.

We offer a multidisciplinary clinical approach staffed by experienced neurologists, psychologist and social workers.

Research on Alzheimer's disease and dementia during the past several years has revealed that in most cases of dementia in the elderly there is a combination of factors that produce the clinical symptoms. In many cases the combination includes the pathology of Alzheimer's disease plus a large component of cerebral blood vessel damage resulting in mini strokes and changes in the white matter. These findings allow our clinicians to slow down the progression of the disease by giving appropriate treatment of the vascular risk factors. These treatments may include control of the blood pressure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and elevated homocysteine. Homocysteine is a damaging amino-acid that produces alterations of the blood vessels in the brain and the heart.

Referral

Individuals with memory problems may be referred by a personal physician. We provide also second opinions.
