Stroke education and outreach encompasses activities that provide education to patients and their families, health care professionals, and members of the community such as disease support groups and civic organizations.  Stroke educators teach audiences about healthy lifestyle choices and the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of stroke and seeking early treatment.  These efforts are supported by the Taking Strides4Stroke: Community Stroke Awareness Campaign.

The Neurological Institute stroke community educators give presentations at schools, local health fairs, affiliated hospitals, and professional conferences and meetings. At community events, they provide information and educational materials on risk factors for and prevention of stroke, and on using the FAST (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Assessment to recognize the signs of a stroke.
