The Methodist Hospital System is a nonprofit health care organization based in Houston, Texas. It has extended the world-renowned clinical and service excellence of its founding entity, The Methodist Hospital, through a network of community hospitals.

Affiliated with the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, The Methodist Hospital System works closely with local church leaders to bring compassion and spirituality to all its endeavors and to help meet the health needs of the community.

Methodist is consistently ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list. The 2012 issue named Methodist among the country’s top hospitals in 13 of 16 specialties — more than any hospital in Texas — including: heart & heart surgery (12), ophthalmology (15), neurology & neurosurgery (17), gastroenterology (18), gynecology (20), diabetes & endocrinology (21), orthopedics (21), nephrology (23), geriatrics (26), pulmonology (26), urology (29), ear, nose & throat (33), and cancer (38).

U.S. News & World Report named The Methodist Hospital No. 1 in the metro area and No. 1 hospital in Texas, San Jacinto Methodist Hospital ranked No. 7 in the metro area and No. 12 in the state, and Methodist Willowbrook Hospital ranked No. 10 in the metro area and No. 37 in the state.

FORTUNE magazine has placed The Methodist Hospital System on its annual list of “100 Best Companies To Work For” since 2006. It is the only health care organization in Texas on the list.

The Methodist Hospital is consistently re-certified to Magnet status for exceptional nursing.

Methodist’s primary academic affiliates are top-ranked Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Methodist also has affiliations with the University of Houston, Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine and others. Methodist currently sponsors 198 medical residents in 36 programs.

Methodist contributes millions of dollars to community outreach through charity care, agency funding and numerous local initiatives. In 2011, Methodist funded 26 local health care agencies with more than $8.5 million and contributed $2.7 million for in-kind services that included immunizations and diagnostic tests. Hundreds of charity patients benefited from treatments at Methodist in 2011, totaling $93.4 million. Methodist’s contributions to community benefits totaled $624 million.
