Checking Out
When your doctor has discharged you and you are ready to leave, you will be escorted out in a wheelchair by hospital staff.
Before you leave, don't forget to check your room carefully for any personal belongings. Remember, also, to pick up any valuables you stored in the hospital vault. Hospital check-out time is 11:00 a.m.
Before leaving, you must be cleared by the Business Office: Dunn Tower, first floor, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 713-394-6807.
Gifts and Contributions
Our employees are happy to serve you as part of their job. It is unnecessary to extend gratuities such as money or gifts.
However, if you were pleased with the service and care you received and wish to make a contribution, gifts to The Methodist Hospital Foundation are always welcome. These gifts help the hospital continue to search for new advances in patient care, research and medical education.
The Foundation was established to receive cash and cash equivalent gifts; such contributions are tax- deductible as allowed by law under the 501 (c) (3) tax code. For more information, call the Foundation office at 713-793-1664 or write:

Payment Arrangements
Before you leave, we ask that you pay all charges not covered by your insurance or deposit. If you have not been cleared by the Business Office, please check on your account by stopping by the Cashier's Office before you leave: Dunn Tower, first floor, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, 713-394-6807.
Payment can be made by cash, personal check, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, travelers checks or wire transfers.
The hospital will file your insurance claim for inpatient hospital charges approximately seven to 10 days after your discharge. If your insurance company fails to pay a claim after 90 days, it becomes your responsibility.
In addition to your hospital bill, your doctors and any specialists called for consultation will send you separate bills. If you have surgery, your anesthesiologist will also send a bill.
If you have questions or need further information while you are still in the hospital, please call the financial counselor at 713-394-6807.
If you have questions after your discharge, call the Patient Billing Information at 713-790-2461.
Transportation Home
If you need to arrange transportation home via taxi or airport limousine, call the Patient Information Desk at 713-394-6806.
If a friend or relative is picking you up upon discharge, please have them park in a designated parking area until you are ready to leave. (See Parking & Transportation.) You may also arrange to have someone meet you at the main entrance on Fannin Street, where an attendant can assist you.
