Caring Teens

Criteria: All teen volunteers must be

  • 15 to 18 years old
  • Able to successfully complete a background check, drug test, TB test, and orientation (all provided by the Methodist Hospital upon acceptance)

Application Requirements for New Applicants:

 

  • Applicants under 18 years old must have parental consent
  • Copy of most recent report card, with C or above average
  • Two copies of applicant's school or state issued ID, or passport
  • Two forms of recommendation from teacher or counselors (forms included in packet)
  • Complete Pre-Employment Disclosure & Authorization Form (forms included in packet)
  • Volunteer Acknowledgment Form (form included in packet)
  • Immigration and Export Control Compliance Questionnaire (forms included in packet)

 

Application Requirements for Returning Caring Teen Volunteers:

  • Returning Volunteers must complete a new application
  • Applicants under 18 years must have parental consent
  • A copy of most recent report card, with C or above average
  • Updated copy of applicant's school or state issued id, or passport
  • Complete Pre-Employment Disclosure & Authorization Form
  • Returning volunteers must have completed 50 hours in 2012
  • Volunteer Acknowledgment Form
  • Immigration and Export Control Compliance Questionnaire

     

    Do not submit your application unless or until you have met all of the above requirements. The Volunteer Services Department will not consider an application until all requirements listed above are met. Also, the Volunteer Services Department will not contact applicants with missing requirements. Applicants will receive an email once ALL requirements are met. Most communication is done by email. Please provide at least one email, no more than two email addresses. Returning Caring Teens receive first priority.

     

    Application Deadline:

    Thursday, February 28, 2013. The first 100 complete applications that meet all of the requirements will be accepted. No exceptions.

    • Apply: Applicants must submit a paper application with all requirements into the Volunteer Office by Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. Only COMPLETE applications will be accepted. Applicants who submitted complete applications will be notified by email stating the Volunteer Services department has received their completed application. Applicants with incomplete applications will not be notified.
    • Acceptance: Applicants will be notified by email regarding acceptance or rejection into program by Friday, March 8, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants with incomplete applications will not be notified. If applicants have not received notification by Monday, March 11, please call 713-441-3290. No phone calls regarding acceptance before March 8.
    • The Caring Teen Summer program will be divided into two five week summer sessions. Caring Teens are required to complete 5 weeks. Please make sure to indicate your preference on your application.
    • Health Screens: Health screens must be scheduled in advanced. Deadline to schedule appointments is April 13
    • Session 1 - health screen appointments for Summer Session 1 are available between March 11 – May 31
    • Session 2 – health screen appointments for Summer Session 2 are available between May 1 – July 5
    • Assignment opportunities will be posted on Friday, April 5 with instructions on how to select assignment. All accepted Caring Teens should arrive at orientation prepared with possible assignment choices.
    • Optional Information session: An optional Information session is available for parents only on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. Assignment opportunities will be discussed. Information session is NOT mandatory. It is an opportunity for parents to ask questions about program details. Location will be provided in acceptance email.
    • Orientation: All new and returning volunteers must attend an orientation. Volunteer assignments will be determined and uniforms will be available for purchase ($25). Details will be provided in the acceptance email.

      Assignment: Volunteer assignments are 5 weeks and begin the second week in June for the first summer session. The second summer session will begin the second week in July. Assignments are regular weekly scheduled assignments. All Caring Teens must commit to completing 50 hours. Caring Teen volunteers are required to volunteer at least five hours per week. All Caring Teens will receive a Program Completion Certificate after completing 100 hours. Those completing less than 100 hours will receive only a printout of hours volunteered. Recommendation letters are only available to those completing 50 hours.
