HOUSTON (March 7, 2012) - Nature Publishing Group editors joined Houston-area science and business leaders at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute on Wednesday, March 7, for the first-ever Nature SciCafe in Houston. Nature SciCafé was created by Nature Medicine and Nature Biotechnology editors as a way for investors and business leaders to learn about the latest and best scientific research in their backyards.

The event was organized and sponsored by BioHouston- a non-profit consortium of Houston academic institutions- to support the growth of Houston's biotech sector.
Since its inception three years ago, SciCafé events had only taken place in New York, London, Boston, and San Francisco. That is, until now.
"That the editors of two top Nature publications would choose Houston as their fifth SciCafé venue speaks to the quality of work being done here at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute and throughout our city," Ferrari said. "We heard about the most forward-thinking scientific research happening at Rice University, the Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Texas, and M.D. Anderson, on subjects ranging from nanomedicine to melanoma and heart disease. These were very exciting talks."
BioHouston CEO Jacqueline Northcut and Nature Biotechnology Chief Editor Andrew Marshall welcomed about 40 business leaders, medical and biological scientists, and research administrators.
The Nature Publishing Group publishes Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, and the group's flagship, Nature.
