More than 100 men responded to the challenge to take an active interest in getting – and staying – healthy. The free Men’s Health Fair held Friday, June 22 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital was well attended by residents from Baytown, Crosby, Dayton, Highlands, Houston and Mont Belvieu.
The health fair also included free blood pressure, cholesterol/triglyceride, oxygen saturation and body fat screenings.
Jerrel Butler of Houston, participated in each of the screenings. “I think this is great,” Butler said. “I really enjoyed talking to the dietitian and learning more about what I should and shouldn’t eat.”
Representatives from hospital departments provided information on topics such as family physicians, cancer services, diabetes, sleep disorders, wound care, heart attack and stroke and nutrition.
Seminars led by physicians and licensed staff covered healthy eating, heart health, sinus problems, and an in-depth question and answer session on general men’s health topics. Following each session, a drawing was held for free Astros tickets and one participant was the recipient of the grand prize: a free iPad 2.
