Treatment Options

HCM can generally be successfully treated with medications in most patients. Patients with the obstructive form of HCM may require more invasive treatments such as myectomy or alcohol septal ablation. In some studies, dual chamber pacemakers have been successful in partially relieving symptoms of some patients. In addition to treatment of symptoms, it may be necessary for a patient to undergo the placement of an implantable defibrillator if the patient is determined to be at increased risk for sudden cardiac death.
