Biography
Dr. Quiñones is currently Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas.
Dr. Quiñones has been one of the pioneers in the field of cardiac ultrasound over the past 32 years. He has received national and international recognition for his contributions in the field of echocardiography, both as a teacher and as an investigator in developing noninvasive, echocardiographic methods to measure left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction, cardiac output and regurgitant volumes in mitral and aortic insufficiency. He lectures world wide as a guest speaker and has authored or co-authored over 185 manuscripts in peer review journals, over 12 book chapters and 225 published abstracts.
Dr. Quiñones has served as a member of several writing groups in echocardiography and chaired the writing group for the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/American College of Physicians Clinical Competence Statement on Echocardiography developed in Collaboration with the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography. Dr. Quiñones has served on the editorial board of several scientific journals and on the Board of Directors of several medical societies. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Cardiology and of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association Houston Chapter. In addition, he serves on the Executive Board of the Interamerican Society of Cardiology as Vice-President in representation of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Quiñones is listed in “The Best Doctors in America, Central Region” by Woodward and White, Inc. and in the Best of the Best in the Medical Journal-Houston, the Leading Source for Healthcare Business News, April 2008.
Miguel Quiñones, M.D., chair of cardiology at Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center and professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, will receive the Physician Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Echocardiography at the society's annual scientific sessions in June. He was named a Master of the American College of Cardiology at the ACC annual meeting in March 2012.
