Biography
Dr. Arvind Bhimaraj is a cardiologist who specializes in heart failure and cardiac transplant. He has experience with patients whose medical conditions necessitate mechanical heart pumps and transplants.
Dr. Bhimaraj received his medical school training at Gandhi Medial College, Hyderabad, in southern India. After graduation, he worked as a public health consultant for the Administrative Staff College of India for a World Bank project that examined the health of India's urban poor. Dr. Bhimaraj subsequently earned a master of public health degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and graduated with an honors thesis on providing health care for uninsured Polish-Americans in Chicago. Dr. Bhimaraj completed his medical residency at MCP Hahnemann University (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia and went on to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, in Chicago, for his cardiology fellowship. Dr. Bhimaraj then pursued advanced training in heart failure and heart transplantation medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. He is board certified in cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine.
Among his research interests are right ventricular failure, mechanical heart pumps, and heart transplant rejection, and on the public health side, preventive cardiology and improving access to health care in low-income communities.
Dr. Bhimaraj is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Cardiology, and was named the best graduating resident by Drexel University's College of Medicine.
