Varicose veins—abnormally thick, bulging, and gnarled veins that appear usually in the legs—affect one of every two people over age 50.
For many patients, varicose veins are mainly a cosmetic concern; in others, they may cause pain, blood clots, skin sores or other problems. Whatever the patient’s reasons for seeking our help, the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center offers a full range of comprehensive varicose vein treatments, including the most advanced version of combination laser therapy.
The Cynosure™ laser combines two existing technologies—the pulse-dye laser and Nd:YaG—to emit a prescribed dose of light energy that destroys the varicose vein. The venous tissue will be absorbed by the body and blood flow will be redirected to veins below the surface of the skin.
Other varicose vein treatments available at the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center include:
- Sclerotherapy: A traditional method of treating spider and varicose veins with injection
- Venous ablation: A minimally invasive treatment that provides faster recovery with less discomfort over vein stripping
- Microphlebectomy: Small incisions used to remove bulging varicose veins
