The Infectious Diseases Division at The Methodist Hospital studies the nature of complex diseases and their treatment. The physicians are all board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine, often in addition to specific subspecialties. Some of the infectious disease specialists also work closely with The Methodist Transplant Center to help prevent infections prior to transplant surgery and to treat patients who acquire infections after transplants are completed. Trusted researchers and clinicians, the physicians of the Infectious Diseases Division are committed to quality patient care and contribute to interdisciplinary protocols for patient care, emergency medicine, disease prevention and epidemiological study.
The Infectious Diseases Division stays on the leading edge of understanding new diseases as they develop, as well as continues advanced research on complex infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and device-associated infections. Beyond understanding the pathology of these diseases, infectious disease physicians also study the effectiveness and potential of drug treatments such as antivirals and antifungal antibiotics.
