Additional Services

The birthing experience usually lasts just a few short hours but family lasts a lifetime. The Birthing Center at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is dedicated to making family-centered maternity care a positive experience. We have created a series of courses taught by experienced medical professionals specially prepared for expecting parents and their family. Our classes are open to all expecting families in the community. Take a moment to read all about our classes that address every stage of pregnancy through infancy. You will discover that they provide a wealth of information and assistance to make your pregnancy a most memorable experience.

Breastfeeding & Lactation Support

Breastfeeding has been proven to have many benefits, including boosting your baby’s immunity and enhancing the bond between mother and child. For those moms who would like to learn how to breastfeed, the Birthing Center staff includes lactation consultants who will be happy to address all of your needs. We also offer breastfeeding classes for those parents wishing to familiarize themselves with the process before their baby arrives. If you have questions after you have been discharged from the hospital, please ask to speak to our lactation consultant by calling 281-274-7080.

  • To attend a breastfeeding class, please register for one of the prepared childbirth classes listed below.
  • If you choose not to attend a prepared childbirth class, breastfeeding consultants are available after your pregnancy.

1 day teen pregnancy prepared childbirth class

This is a one-day class for teen parents to be includes information about labor and delivery, c/sections, comfort measures and medications used in the labor and delivery area and infant care, breastfeeding. Breathing and relaxation techniques are discussed. Visual aids, discussions, films and practice enhance the learning process. Additional time for practice and reading is encouraged for the mother-to-be and her partner. A pediatrician and an anesthesiologist contribute to this class.

  • Length of class: 8 hours
  • Fee: $75
  • Who should attend: Mother and her support person
  • When to register: 28-34 weeks
  • What to bring: 2 pillows, dress in comfortable clothing
  • Snacks will be provided.

Birthing Center Tour

A free tour of the birthing center, including the post- partum and nursery areas, is available for the expectant parents and family members. Expectant parents are given the opportunity to ask questions and to become more familiar with the hospital and the services provided.

Tours are available:

  • Fridays: 12 - 6 p.m.
  • Sundays, Mondays and Saturdays: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

No appointments are necessary. If these times are not convenient, call 281-274-7080 to schedule another time.

Please notify the information desk in the lobby of the main entrance of the hospital that you are interested in a birthing center tour.
