Hand Therapy is a specialty within Occupational and Physical Therapy that specializes in rehabilitation for the upper limb, including the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Occupational Therapy focuses on the hands and upper extremities to regain control and movement with the primary goal of helping people to live a more independent and productive lifestyle. Through treatment exercises and patient education, our Occupational Therapists help each patient achieve his or her personal goals such as, dressing themselves, cooking, gardening or any other daily activity.
Our therapists rehabilitate patients with hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder related injuries and conditions through specialized exercises and stretches. Occupational therapists can also help patients overcome problems with fine motor skills, visual-perceptual skills, cognitive skills and sensory processing that can occur as a result of many injuries and conditions. They provide treatment to prevent dysfunction, restore function and/or reverse the progression of a problem with the upper limb. Aimed at helping individuals achieve independence and improve quality in all areas of their lives, Hand Therapists work with their patients to enhance their ability to participate fully in the highest possible level of activity.
