Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. An early diagnosis allows for more treatment options and improves the success of treatment and survival.
Below are some general guidelines. Please be sure to check with your Primary Care Physician or OBGYN to determine your examination schedule.
In your 20s
- Breast self examinations every month
- Clinical breast examinations every 3 years
In your 30s
- Baseline screening mammogram (may be recommended between 30-35)
- Clinical breast self examination every 3 years
- Breast self examinations every month
In your 40s & Up
- Breast self examinations every month
- Clinical breast examinations every year
- Mammograms every 1 to 2 years, greater frequency if high risk
