Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy involves implanting or the insertion of a radioactive source in or around the tumor site. The implant may be temporary or permanently placed depending on the location. At The Methodist Hospital we utilize LDR Brachytherapy for treatment of prostate, gynecological and various other tumors. LDR Brachytherapy is also used in conjunction with external beam therapy.
High Dose Rate Remote After-Loader Brachytherapy
Additionally, we offer high dose rate (HDR) remote after loading treatment. This procedure delivers a highly localized dose of radiation to the tumor rapidly. HDR brachytherapy treatments are performed on an outpatient basis. We currently use HDR for the treatment of some gynecological, pulmonary, and breast tumors. See Mammosite.
