Labor and delivery at Methodist Willowbrook´s family care South Pavilion is designed around the needs and comfort of the expectant mother. The high level support staff and specialized physicians work within this nurturing environment to provide the best experience possible for families.

The labor and delivery services at Methodist Willowbrook include a 10–bed labor and delivery unit complimented with a nine-bed antepartum unit. Designated specialists are on-staff for high risk patients. Though encompassing the most advanced technology available, the labor and delivery suites are created to replicate the warmth and calm of home.

These uniquely designed rooms help expecting and new moms feel comfortable and removed from the often stressful aspect of a bustling medical facility.

In the 24–bed postpartum mother and baby suites (couplet care), new mom and baby have a private room with their own certified maternity nurse and a designated support staff to ensure that every need is addressed. A fully staffed well–baby nursery is also available when mom needs some quiet time.

The Labor and Delivery unit within the new pavilion is also equipped with a state–of–the–art neonatal intensive care unit managed in partnership with Texas Children´s Hospital.

• Board certified staff of OB/GYN, specialized nurses and emergency care physicians 24/7.
• Private rooms for antepartum, labor, delivery and postpartum.
• Pain management available 24/7.
• Anesthesiologists on staff 24/7.
• Neonatal CPR–certified nurses specially trained in stabilization and care of critically ill newborns.
• Neonatologists and critical care staff managed in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital available 24/7.
• Level I, II newborn care.
• Hearing screening services provided by in-house Methodist Audiologists.
• Lactation specialists available to answer questions and address concerns.
• In order to facilitate the active participation of parents, there is 24–hour access to the Maternity care units.
• An advanced newborn monitoring system is in place to ensure the highest level of security.

Visiting hours are 24 hours per day, but may be limited due to the patient’s condition. Family and friends may visit in your room or wait for your new arrival while in one of our two waiting rooms. Although family and visitors are encouraged to visit, hallway “waiting” is prohibited so that safe and confidential care can be provided for obstetrical patients. Snack machines are located in the waiting room between labor and delivery and the postpartum units. A pull out bed is provided so that one adult visitor may remain overnight. No children are permitted to spend the night for safety concerns.

Mother and her support person are encouraged to bring items that may be helpful to use during labor and delivery for comfort. Beneficial articles during labor are massage items, portable mp3 or CD player and a favorite picture for a focal point. The hospital provides a labor ball and birth bar for the bed to help with labor positioning. Each room has a rocker-glider chair which can be a helpful option to ease labor discomfort.

Gifts from the Heart is a gift shop located on the first floor of the hospital. Gift items, baby clothing and seasonal merchandise are available. A variety of big brother and sister presents are also carried by the shop. Medela breast pumps are available for purchase and rental. Other breast feeding supplies are available as well.
