Methodist's Rehabilitation Center provides consultation and treatment to patients with severe neuromuscular or musculoskeletal disorders or impairments as a result of disease, trauma, or congenital disorders.

The primary goal is to assist each patient to become medically, psychologically, socially, and vocationally independent. The Rehabilitation Center offers a full range of rehabilitation services for patients, including therapies for the following:

  • head trauma,
  • stroke (CVA),
  • amputees,
  • neuromuscular diseases, including Guillain-Barre, MS, ALS and Parkinson's,
  • musculoskeletal disorders,
  • geriatric patients,
  • pulmonary disorders,
  • sports injuries, and
  • chronic pain rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation physicians work closely with patients to facilitate their recovery. The Rehabilitation Center's daily activities are overseen by a medical director board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

 

A comfortable environment

Located on the fifth floor of the hospital's Main Building, the Rehabilitation Center is licensed for 44 beds in semi-private and private rooms. Special accommodations include a washer and dryer, a dining room, and shower facilities accessible by wheelchair or stretcher.

Patients and their families can also take advantage of other hospital amenities including laundry service, valet parking, a hair salon, bellman service, and the convenience of an on-site bank.

 

Serving special needs

Patients who have experienced stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, major trauma, femur fracture, brain injury, polyarthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis), burns, neurological dysfunction, or other disorders affecting muscles, nerves, or bones may benefit from treatment in the Rehabilitation Center.

Each candidate is evaluated by a rehabilitation attending physician. Prior to admission, the Rehabilitation Center staff gives the patient and family details about the rehabilitation program and will arrange a tour of the
