The Methodist Hospital Education Institute (TMHEI) was established by The Methodist Hospital system (TMHS) in 2006 upon the recommendation of an interdisciplinary team of healthcare practitioners charged by The Methodist Hospital Board of Directors with creating a vision for health professions education and training in The Methodist Hospital System. The purpose of the TMHEI is to provide the best education and training to all disciplines in the hospital, enabling the best patient care. TMHEI will seek to support the development of a learning healthcare environment that is innovative and applies the best evidence in education and research to foster safety, quality, and value for the patients and staff the hospital serves.
Mission:
The Methodist Hospital will be a international leader in healthcare education in order to provide the highest quality of patient care delivered safely in a spiritual setting.
Responsibilities:
The Methodist Hospital Education Institute will have responsibility to fulfill the following functions:
- Operate as an administrative liaison for the programs and priorities of the Center for Professional Excellence, the Graduate Medical Education Department, the Continuing Medical Education Department, and the medical libraries.
- Collaborate with academic departments to attract professional educators and education researchers.
- Coordinate, develop, and manage shared education infrastructure
- Lead the development and delivery of hospital-wide curricula including the health care competencies outlined by the Institute of Medicine and values that TMH holds to be essential to its missions
- Guide development and recommend priorities to management regarding the following proposed facilities, as well as similar facilities that may be proposed in the future: Professional Education Center, Patient and Family Education Center, Conference Centers, Methodist Institute for Technological Innovation and Education (MITIE™), and multidisciplinary information resources.
