Special Delivery Program

Baby with mom

When a child is going to be born, there are many people who have important roles to fulfill. At San Jacinto Methodist, we allow every member of the family the opportunity to learn their individual part in the childbirth experience.

Starting with weekly childbirth classes, usually in the second trimester of pregnancy, these classes will teach you and your coach the exercises designed to ease the tension associated with delivery. The classes address the physiology of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and medical inter-ventions available. Since each person involved in the birthing experience of your child has different goals and expectations, it is important that the classes be used to help you receive first-hand knowledge of what you'll be experiencing. The nurse that will lead your class is an experienced, registered health professional that utilizes modern methods of maternity education. You'll find the pregnancy experience can be one of the most loving and fulfilling experiences in life.

Before you go home with your newborn, you will receive individualized instruction to help you prepare for your unique new role. It is our goal that, by the time you are ready to leave the hospital, you will have been adequately trained by experienced maternity professionals, seen a wide range of mothering videotapes, and been coached with bedside demonstrations tailored to your specific needs.

The Birth Place

The San Jacinto Methodist Hospital's state-of-the-art facility has been designed, equipped, and staffed as a regional medical center, providing some of the most advanced health care services available.

Our Special Delivery Program offers the mother-to-be a new experience, as well as sophisticated obstetrics. The Unit maintains 12 labor/ delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) suites, complete with jacuzzis.

The rooms are cozy and beautifully furnished and the beds swiftly convert for delivery. The medical equipment that will be necessary during the birth is brought into the room at the time of delivery. Should you need to deliver your child by cesarean section, a surgical suite is available on the same floor. Each of our registered nurses has been trained to assist in surgery, so that if you should require cesarean section, the nurse who has been attending you will assist in the surgery also.

For the baby born with medical problems, there is a state-of-the-art, Level II nursery on the same floor to provide special care and close attention, equal to the child's condition.

Pain Management

One of the most thrilling events in a woman's life is the birth of a child. However, along with the excitement, there is often anxiety about the birthing process, especially concerning the pain of labor and delivery.

Over the past several years, significant advances have been made in the field of pain control for women during child birth. The four most commonly used methods used to cope with labor pain are:

  • Prepared Childbirth
  • Analgesic Medications
  • Local Anesthesia
  • Regional Anesthesia (epidural)

At San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, we offer all four of these methods. Managing your pain is important to us, therefore, we encourage you to discuss your preferred method with your attending physician who can help you select what is best for your delivery.

The Birth Experience

The medical team strives to provide personalized care based on your individual needs and wishes. Since the birth of a child is such a special event, family involvement is encouraged. At San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, special accommodations are provided for the fathers to spend the night in comfort. Big brothers and sisters are also encouraged to come and welcome the newest addition of the family.

You will be cared for by a team of specially trained nurses in our Special Delivery Program. You may keep your baby in the room with you after delivery so you can feed the baby anytime. If you prefer, your baby can be cared for in the newborn nursery. Nursing staff is available to care for your baby at anytime.

Going Home

Having a baby at San Jacinto means much more than going home with a baby. The nurses in Special Delivery love their work, and they understand your special needs. So, whether they are meeting you for the first time or have come to know you through the classes we offer, their goal is to send you home with all the knowledge, training, and emotional support you will need to make those first critical months of your child's life safe and secure.
