The Methodist Neurological Institute is a multi-faceted, state-of-the-art facility where clinicians and researchers provide comprehensive care for patients with neurological disorders including stroke, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), brain tumors, epilepsy, pituitary tumors and disorders, and spinal disorders.

The Neurological Institute’s founding chairs have led their departments at Methodist for more than 25 years. Dr. Robert Grossman, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, an internationally respected neurosurgeon and teacher, is the Director of the Institute.

Dr. Stanley Appel, Chairman of the Department of Neurology, is a leader in neurodegenerative disease research who created one of the first and largest multidisciplinary clinics in the world to treat Lou Gehrig’s disease, is the co-director of the Institute.

These renowned specialists lead a core group of more than 50 neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologist and neuro-rehabilitation physicians collaborating to make the Neurological Institute a center for neurological diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials and research.

The Neurological Institute is built around four principles: physician-scientists, advanced technology, comprehensive patient services and innovative facilities. Specialists from multiple disciplines analyze a patient’s condition from all perspectives to develop an all-encompassing treatment plan. Research and clinical care under one roof ensures that patients have access to the most advanced care, newest treatment techniques and broadest range of options.

 

Mission Statement

The Neurological Institute provides comprehensive care for patients with neurological disorders, encompassing community-based outpatient programs, diagnostic neuroradiological and neurological testing, neurological and surgical treatment, neurological intensive care and comprehensive rehabilitation programs.

Patients at the Neurological Institute have the services of an integrated team of specialists in neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-anesthesiology, neuropathology, neuro-ophthalmology, neuropsychiatry and neurorehabilitation.

Research into the causes of neurological disease, developing new therapies, and education of physicians, nurses, and health care providers are integral to the mission of the Neurological Institute.
