Methodist Center for Liver Disease & Transplantation

For Physicians

Methodist Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation, 6550 Fannin Street, Smith Tower, 12th Floor, Houston, Texas 77030

The Methodist Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation (MCLDT) recognizes that physicians have options regarding where to refer their patients for treatment. Receiving a referral is a privilege that imparts responsibilities on the transplant center physicians, staff, administration and ancillary personnel.

The transplant center procedures will always recognize the referring physician and strive for compliance with their wishes for patient triage.

The MCLDT will strive to ascertain continuous, appropriate and, to the extent possible, comprehensive communication with those entrusting us with their patients. Based on organ specific protocols, referring physicians will be offered, the opportunity to share in, assume or assign the care of their patients at appropriate times following transplantation.

Referring physician and patient wishes will be sought, documented and shared.

The MCLDT will provide consultation, education and informational support to the referring physicians to help them in coordinating long-term care of the transplant patients.

The MCLDT will create a mechanism for referring physicians to voice concerns regarding practice patterns, patient safety, communication concerns or complaints regarding the transplant program, its personnel and/or physicians, and will have procedures in place to alleviate those concerns and provide expedited feedback to the physicians involved.
