Great place to work

A recent job fair to fill new positions attracted more than 1,600 applicants, drawn by Methodist’s reputation and three straight years on the FORTUNE magazine list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. Methodist Sugar Land Hospital also ranks at the very top in employee satisfaction among hospitals in the University Health System Consortium, with a rating in the 99th percentile.

Recently, the Houston Business Journal also ranked Methodist as one of the best places to work in Houston.

Nursing staff, especially, are drawn to the hospital’s excellent work environment and culture of collaboration, which includes a 1-to-4 nurse to patient ratio in medical/surgical units and 1-to-2 ratio in ICU (sometimes 1-to-1). The hospital’s commitment to nurse satisfaction, excellent bedside care and patient safety was recently honored with the Pathway to Excellence™ designation, an award given annually by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“Patient satisfaction is directly linked to employee satisfaction, and our results prove that,” says Chief Nursing Officer Janet Leatherwood. “I’ve had a number of nurses tell me that working here has changed their outlook on the profession, because they are finally free to care for patients in a meaningful way due to our staffing ratios.”

In fact, 45 percent of Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s positions are filled by referrals from current employees, says Luis Garcia, director of Human Resources. “Our employees love working here, and they are happy to recommend Methodist Sugar Land Hospital to their friends and family members as an employer of choice,” he says.

Methodist offers competitive benefits, diversity in the workforce, recognition for employees and a unique environment focused on integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence.
