The need for anesthesia in neurosurgery and other neurological procedures adds complexity to the interactions between neurological medicine and human nervous functions. The Neuroanesthesia Service of the Methodist Neurological Institute is a dedicated group of neuroanesthesiologists who deliver compassionate perioperative and procedural care to patients with neurological disorders using highly sophisticated neuroanesthetic techniques for the treatment of epilepsy, tumors near the motor and speech areas of the brain, and movement disorders.
Neuroanesthesiologists at the Neurological Institute also offer the application of special anesthetic techniques that can allow patients to be purposefully awake, but comfortable, during brain operations — particularly in cases where the evaluation of speech and movement is critical.
