Social Services Outreach

Our licensed social workers also perform the following services to individuals and the community to promote compassionate, continuous care.

  • Serve as liaisons with disease associations and area agencies to help connect patients and their families with additional resources that will enhance their abilities to manage disease-related issues.
  • Provide follow-up visits over the phone and at home visits to assess care needs and provide resource referrals.
  • Speak at conferences and disease support groups to share current information and techniques with other health care professionals and educate patients.

The impact of neurological illness can extend far beyond the immediate needs of the patient. Social Work Services at the Methodist Neurological Institute helps to provide emotional and psychosocial support to patients and their families, enhancing problem solving capacities by assisting with the complexities of neurological disease and its treatment.

Social Work Services provides intervention to patients who are adapting to illness, offering guidance in managing stress or depression related to the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. In addition, Social Work Services provides information on available resources to patients and family members who require assistance in managing marital and family conflict or financial and insurance issues.

Social workers at the Neurological Institute are trained in a variety of treatment models:

  • Individual counseling/psychotherapy
  • Grief counseling
  • Marital and family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Relaxation therapy
  • Crisis intervention

Licensed social workers provide outpatient continuity of care to patients with neurological disorders or diseases. They work as liaisons with physicians, families, insurance companies and community agencies.
