Caring Teens

TMHS Volunteers

Our Caring Teens program gives teens a unique opportunity to gain experience in a healthcare setting and in return gain personal satisfaction by helping others. Students ages 15-18 can participate in our year-round youth program.

Volunteers work primarily on the patient units, emergency and surgery waiting rooms, and administrative offices.

2009 Caring Teen Volunteer Program

We are now accepting applications for year-round Caring Teen Program. After school and weekend hours will be available. The assignments are regularly scheduled 2-3 hour shifts that occur weekly or bi-weekly.   We will not accept applications for summer 2010 until February 2010.

  • Time Commitment: Teens must commit to completing 40 hours during the school year. Assignments are 2 or more hour, weekly or bi-weekly shifts.
  • All volunteers are required to attend orientation, complete a health screen and purchase a $15 volunteer polo shirt. All will be coordinated through our office.
  • A health screen includes a drug test and two Tuberculosis injections.
    PLEASE NOTE: If you received a BCG immunization as a child, you MAY have a reaction and/or false positive. It is the responsibility of the applicant to let our department know if they have had the BCG immunization. X-rays will be available as an alternative.

Junior Council

If you are interested in qualifying to become a member of the junior council you are required to have completed 50 hours of volunteer service and attend a monthly meeting to plan various activities throughout the year. Junior council members are selected according to their leadership and commitment to The Methodist Hospital.
