Ultrasound sonography, in which sound waves are used to create an image of a fetus in the womb, is the most common prenatal imaging method. But in some cases, doctors find that they need additional detail to see certain structures or make diagnoses. Fetal MRI can provide very high resolution, multiplanar views, giving doctors important additional information about the health of the fetus.
The Methodist Hospital offers ultra high resolution fetal MRI in cases in which traditional ultrasound doesn't provide enough information for a doctor to make a diagnosis or view certain parts of the fetus. It is particularly valuable in imaging the fetus's brain and central nervous system, and is also used in the planning of certain types of fetal surgery.
No two pregnancies are alike. The specialists in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine division of The Methodist Hospital provide specialized consultation on the management of complex pregnancies, including compassionate advanced care for pregnant women and their unborn children.
